CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – The Division of Bataan secured once again the Second Place award in the recently-concluded Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA) Meet 2016, held at the Bulacan Sports Complex, Sta. Isabel, this City, last Feb. 7-12, 2016.
“Kung skills ang pag-uusapan, very competitive ang mga athletes natin, kasi three consecutive years na tayong nag-se-second place,” said Mr. Ramon C. Perez, Chief Education Supervisor, Schools Governance and Operations Division and Sports Coordinator at the same time.
Bataan garnered a total of 32 golds, 33 silvers and 42 bronzes, for which Mr. Perez claims that we excel in the fields of arnis, swimming, boxing, basketball, athletics and tennis.
As the province eyes to acquire the first place next year, Mr. Perez disclosed that some improvements are needed for this goal to be achieved, saying “Kailangan pa natin ng konting improvement para mag-first, wala pa tayong standard facilities na pinagpa-practice-an kasi yung oval natin kulang ang sukat at wala pa tayong gymnasium, dumadayo pa tayo ng Manila at Olongapo makapag-practice lang.”
But despite these shortcomings in terms of facilities, the Sports Coordinator shared that Team Bataan still managed to take hold of the second spot and performed well, bagging 32 golds this year compared to 27 last year.
The weeklong sports event revolved around the theme: Developing Strong Character through Sports, with Sen. Teofisto Guingona III as guest speaker during the opening ceremony.
