CAPITOL COMPOUND  In preparation for the upcoming meeting with the external stakeholders, a session for the Bataan Resiliency Team was held yesterday, January 4, 2018, at the PGO conference room, this city.

“In the past few days swerte po tayo dahil hindi tayo binisita ng bagyo even nung panahon ng tag-ulan, pero unlike us yung mga kapatid po natin sa Visayas at Mindanao kitang-kita po natin sa balita na talagang malaki yung pinsala na kanilang naranasan because of the storms…” Gov. Abet said in his message.

Together with the Governor are the members of the National Resilience Council (NRC): Ms. Marilou Erni (Executive Director), Ms. Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga (President), Mr. Ernesto Garilao (Vice Chairman CSOs/NGOs), representatives from the Manila Observatory, PGB department heads and staff, and other concerned sectors.

With the purpose to make cities and provinces in the country more resilient to calamities, the NRC includes the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Naga, Ormoc, Valenzuela, Zamboanga, Iriga, and the only province of Bataan in their first year to implement the project.

Some matters discussed were the background of NRC, the council structure, NRC partnership strategy, NRC leadership framework, resilience themes, and many more.

“I think the entire country is vulnerable to these kinds of calamities. Kaya it is incumbent upon us, government officials, to make our province more resilient para sa ganon, may calamity man o wala, ay ligtas po yung ating mga mamamayan,” Gov. Abet added.

This is a global best practice that we’re a part of, and with combined efforts from the government, scientific communities, the academe, and the private sectors, we will altogether have a more resilient community.
