He said that he will also coordinate with Mayor Ramil del Rosario, Gov Abet S Garcia, the PNP under Sr Supt Audie Atienza and the Bureau of Fisheries And Aquatic Resources (BFAR) for the said massive planting of coral reefs in this coastal town, known for its crystal clear water and diving site.
Himself a diver, Col Galicia said that he will also put up a detachment of the CAFGU, after recruiting some members of the government’s paramilitary unit, to guard and monitor the coral reefs in the area.
“This is also in preparation for the proposed world-wide meeting of various leaders in the world, the Asia Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) which is said to be held in the country next year,” said Col Galicia.
Provincial officials led by Gov. Garcia and the PNP headed by Col. Atienza are now coming up with plans to ensure the safety of the world leaders in the coming APEC that will be held inside the Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, a world class tourist destination in this town.
Businessman Jerry Acuzar, owner of Las Casas, is now rushing the construction of world class but uniquely designed houses in anticipation of the world leaders’ meeting here.
The CAFGU battalion commander also said that once the coral reef planting is pushed through “this will serve as a show window of the province.”
He added that the putting up of a CAFGU detachment in the area will not only protect the coral reefs but will also serve as a protection unit against illegal fishing, the area being once a hotbed for illegal fishers.
