Going beyond success

CITY of SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — “The end goal of the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) is not to compete with other local cities and municipalities, rather we should look up to ASEAN and World competitiveness,” said National Competitiveness Council (NCC) former Co-Chair Guillermo M. Luz during the 2018 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index Central Luzon Regional Awarding Ceremonies held at The Orchidarium, The Orchid Gardens, this City, December 7.
Province of Bataan ranked 10th for the Most Competitive Province while the City of Balanga ranked 6th for the Most Improved Local Government Unit and 10th for the Resiliency Pillar.
The Municipality of Orani ranked 9th for the Most Improved LGU, and the Municipality of Mariveles ranked 9th for the Infrastracture Pillar.
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Regional Director and Regional Development Council Chair Judith Angeles said that it was the 1st time where they held an independent awarding ceremony intended only for the cities and municipalities from Central Luzon who garnered numerous spots at the National Competitiveness Ranking.
To be recognized as one of the awardees for the National Competitiveness Ranking, there are pillars and categories to be considered. Pillars include Economic Dynamism, Government Efficieny, Infrastracture, and Resiliency. Categories for the National Competitiveness Ranking are the High Urbanized Cities, Component Cities, 1st to 6th Class Municipalities, and the Province.
“I believe that behind the national competitiveness is the local competitiveness because it is the building block of it,” said NCC Former Co-Chair Guillermo Luz. He also emphasized that the benefit of winning is the recognition itself. The fact that your city/municipality belongs to the top 10 of the national competitiveness ranking means more investments and opportunities to your community.
