MORONG, Bataan — An injured dolphin found along the shore of Playa La Caleta resort was immediately rescued by the Bantay Dagat of Morong & Bagac together with the Provincial Veterinarian Office, Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), Ocean Adventure, Professionary Scuba International Diving, PNP Morong and Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Bataan (DENR), this municipality, January 10. As early as 6:30 am, staff of Playa La Caleta Resort found the injured dolphin identified as Risso’s Dolphin (Grampus Griseus) lying along the shore with a fish net covered around its body. According to PSI Diving Marine Biologist Dr. Luis Heredia, some of the marks are from mating bites and the major wounds suspected came from a fisherman who tried to catch the dolphin. DENR Bataan Sr. EMS Mila Ramirez advised the people living near the shore to avoid contact with the mammal and immediately report in the concern agencies if similar incident occurs. To date, the dolphin was transferred to the Ocean Adventure for rehabilitation and medication due to extreme inflammation. Ocean Adventure Dr. Leo Suarez said that it will take a long time for the dolphin to be healed but rest assured that they will do everything to save the dolphin.
