Local execs laud DENR Bataan programs

PILAR, Bataan – Local executives in the province of Bataan laud the programs being implemented by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bataan.

Pilar Mayor Alice Pizarro said she became aware of the effective solid waste management practices in Lubao town and Barangay Maimpis, San Fernando City during the Manila Bay rehab forum conducted by the agency. She led barangay captains and members of Solid Waste Management Board in visiting the two areas last year for solid waste management benchmarking.

“Having an effective solid waste management system is important for us in helping in the rehabilitation of the Manila Bay area. We don’t want our wastes to go to the bay”, pointed out the lady mayor.

“The municipality of Pilar is in full support to the Manila Bay rehabilitation program in the province being spearheaded by the DENR Bataan”, Pizarro earlier said.

For her part, Samal Mayor Gene Malibiran-Dela Fuente commended the implementation of the DENR Bataan of the National Greening Program (NGP) in her town. “We are lucky to have NGP areas, and we laud the DENR for the effective implementation of the reforestation program”, she told newsmen.

The President issued Executive Order 26 creating NGP targeting to plant 1.5 billion trees to 1.5 million hectares of land in the country from 2011 to 2016. The DENR validating team had surveyed high survival rate of trees planted in Bataan province under the NGP.

Through the leadership of Penro Raul Mamac, DENR Bataan is in full swing implementing its programs that include NGP, Handog Titulo, and Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program, among others.
