BALANGA CITY, Bataan — In a bid to further adopt state-of-the-art technologies,  Balanga City Mayor Joet Garcia and top officials of the State-owned Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) are on educational tour in Silicon Valley in USA, a Smart Communications-sponsored tour.

“Yes, they are still on educational tour in Silicon up to May 25,” confirmed City Council Secretary Jeff Calma.

The Silicon visit of Garcia and Dr. Delfin Magpantay, President of BPSU, will further give them additional ideas on modern technology in administration and delivery of public service.

Newsmen believe that the educational tour is seen to further broaden Garcia’s and Magpantay’s  know-how in adopting modern technology in public administration, efficient delivery of public services  as well as in pushing for technological development in the Province and City, respectively.

In fact, the Silicon Valley was the model adopted by City Mayor Garcia when he hatched the vision “Balanga City: World-Class University Town by 2020”.

Mayor Garcia is a recipient of various national and regional awards for good governance, among others.

Silicon Valley is a nickname for a portion of the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California, United States. Home to many of the world’s largest technology corporations,  a world-wide known leading hub for high-tech innovation and development.

Engr. Rod Munoz, BPSU Dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture, said the touring university contingent is composed of Magpantay, ECE Instructor Engr. Faye Baret, and senior ECE students Mark Anthony Colentaya and Lawrence Arguelles.

He said the BPSU team composed of Colentaya, Arguelles and other students of the university, recently won the 10th Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP) with their entry “Coin Saver: A New and Innovative Way to Save”.

Smart sponsored the Silicon Valley educational tour as part of the award to the grand winner. Munoz added that BPSU was also the grand winner of the 8th SWEEP with the entry Android-based Palay Quality Checker
