MBDA to run after speed limit violators

CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – The Ordinance providing for the speed limit for all kinds of motor vehicles within the Bataan Highway and giving the necessary penalties for violation are now set for approval of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan according to Board Member Peping Villapando.

BM Villapando said that the very purpose of the ordinance is to safeguard the motorists and the general public traversing the highways within the territorial jurisdiction of the Province of Bataan, in view of the numerous road accidents due to overspeeding and reckless driving.

In Ordinance No.4 series of 2016, the Metro Bataan Development Authority (MBDA) will implement the ordinance and shall be authorized to perform duties like, confiscate the violator’s driver’s license and issue a citation ticket stating the violations committed as well as conduct seminars among offenders.

MBDA General Manager, Charlie Pizarro said that it’s high time that an ordinance be approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for them to properly address the issue, giving them the legal authority to run after the violators.

He (GM Charlie) further said that as of now, he’s giving initial information and trainings to all his highway marshals to imbibe the rate of speed allowable for all types of motor vehicles and clearly note that whoever shall exceed the maximum or will go beyond the minimum speed limits are now within their hands. The proper training will still be given to all of his staff before the ordinance shall take effect, GM Charlie said.

The Ordinance provides the rate of speed for PUV’s such as jeepneys, buses, UV express, taxis and other similar vehicle of 60 km/hr maximum, and 40 km/hr minimum; likewise for private vehicles like cars, SUV’s, AUV’s, and other similar vehicles are allowed for 80 km/hr maximum and 60 km/hr minimum; for trucks, tankers, dump and cargo trucks, trailers and closed vans, for a speed limit of 50 km/hr maximum and 30 km/her minimum; for motorcycles, 60 km/hr maximum and 40 km/hr minimum will be imposed, slow moving vehicles shall stay at the right most portion of the highway.
