LIMAY, Bataan-  One barangay in this town and another in Balanga City were adjudged Best National Lupong Tagapamayapa and awarded P300,000 each as monetary award, a top official of the Department of Interior and Local Government said yesterday.

DILG Regional Director Florida Dijan confirmed that  Barangay  Cataning in Balanga City (component city category) and Barangay Kitang II/Luz in Limay town (1st to 3rd class municipality category), were the lucky finalists.

In fact, the said two barangays have also been chosen as Best Lupon in 2012, said Dijan.

Informed of the prestigious awards, Punong Barangay Oscar “Boy” Peralta of Kitang/Luz was surprised, saying this will further inspire them to serve more the public particularly in settling disputes amicably.

“Pinatatawag namin ang concerned parties kapag may ganung sigalot para ayusin; minsan nagpapaluwal na lang ako ng sarili kong pera kapag ang reklamo ay may kinalaman sa pera, maayos lang ang problema sa aking barangay,” said the soft-spoken Peralta.

For his part, Punong Barangay Ramiro “Ming” Tigas of Cataning also expressed elation over the news that their barangay won again as Best in Lupong tagapayapa nationwide, saying this is the Second time around that they bag the prestigious award.

“The Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentive Award  is designed by our agency to accord recognition to Lupons at the barangay level which excelled in the implementation of the Katarungang Pambarangay Law,” Department of Interior and Local Government Regional Director Florida Dijan explained.

“These Lupons serve as effective avenues in resolving conflicts in the family and in the community without undergoing tedious court litigation,” Dijan added.

Last year, Barangay Tuyo in Balanga City was enshrined into the National Hall of Fame after three consecutive victories.
