PIA, DENR conduct Luzon-wide conference on climate change

PIA Director General Jose Marie Oquinena said that part of their work plan is the conduct of this conference for communicators particularly journalists from all over Luzon.

Jose Mari Garcia, Provincial Manager of PIA-Bataan and this reporter will represent the Province of Bataan in the conference which will be held at the Forest View Leisure Residences in Subic Freeport. DENR Secretary Ramon Paje will be the keynote speaker.

Among the invited speakers are Mary Ann Lucille Sering, Commissioner/Vice Chairperson Climate Change Commission Philippines, who will tackle “Climate Change 101: Science and Impacts” while Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum will discuss “Knowing the Hazards: Local Geologic & Hydro Meteorological Hazards and Warning Systems.”

The “Geohazard Mapping” will be discussed by Engr. Leo Jasanero, Acting Director of Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB-DENR).

For their capabilities and responses, League of Cities of the Philippines President and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Alfredo M. Yao will tackle “Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Measures” for the government and private sectors, respectively.

PH Network of Environmental Journalists, Inc. President Imelda Abano will talk about “Communicating Climate Change Adaptation Mitigation.”

The participants will also have a workshop on “Developing an Integrated Regional Climate Change Advocacy Plan,” presentation of outputs will conclude on their “call to action and pledge of commitment.”
