The National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC), in a resolution signed by DENR USec Benny Antiporda last August 31, has approved the 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan of the Province of Bataan.
In his video presentation last July 22, Gov. Abet Garcia discussed the long-term solutions of the province, such as the use of alternative technology to process residual waste for diversion, the continuous implementation of waste segregation, transforming biodegradable wastes soil fertilizer, and selling of recyclable wastes to junkshops.
After his presentation, Gov. Abet suggested to USec Antiporda, “Very prolific po ang aming PPP Center so kung mayroon pa pong ibang proponent or technology na gusto tayong subukan with regards to solid waste management, gawin nyo na po kaming proof-of-concept and we will be good partners, Sir”.
Garcia also highlighted that the Bataan Engineered Sanitary Landfill that is currently being developed in Abucay is through Public-Private Partnership.
With this strategy of treating each kind of waste as necessary, Bataan will only have residual waste disposal in sanitary landfills which avoids the usual foul odors in SLFs.
