Pop magazines highlight Bataan solon’s advocacies

ORANI, Bataan – Bataan 1st district congresswoman Geraldine B. Roman was recently chosen by People Asia magazine as one of their women of style and substance featuring her as the first openly transgender woman in Philippine politics in their August-September issue.

The magazine’s August-September issue will honor the women who enthrall the world with their inimitable style and substance. The issue also marks their biggest female-oriented issue of the year, with extensive features on local and international fashion, style and more.

In her Facebook Live post last Friday, the neophyte solon addressed her constituents saying, “…Bising busy po ako sa Manila dahil budget hearings po namin. Nagtatrabaho po tayo para sa ating distrito but I’m glad to be back here in Orani. I just want to share with you my happiness. I miss you all.”

Aside from her legislative job, Roman has been busy with her TV guestings in different talk shows of different media networks including foreign channels and publications.

Meanwhile, another pop magazine – TEAM Mag also featured the Bataan lawmaker tackling the rights of the LGBTs (lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender). “The first woman on our cover is raring to take LGBT rights to new heights. Riding on the plans Rep. Geraldine Roman is set to put in motion, we’re definitely ready for takeoff,” the TEAM’s Facebook post said.

TEAM Mag is about how gay Filipino men relate their identity, where to go for music you can actually dance to. The publication believes they may not have “proper rights in this country” but believes they are claiming authority by getting their words and ideas on paper.

For Roman’s district, she works under the platform “EQUALITY” which she means equal opportunities for all regardless of their personal circumstances. “E” stands for education, Q and U” for quality and universal healthcare, “A” for agriculture, “L” for livelihood, “I” for infrastructure, “T” for transparency of government and “Y” for youth.

“My goal is to pass a bill for each of these advocacies. All these will benefit my district, of course,” Roman said in an interview with CNN.
