PWDs attend workshop on data management appreciation

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, in cooperation with Ms. Maila Rostrata, medical officer and the head for non-communicable disease cluster of the Department of Regional Health, spearheaded a two-day consultative workshop on the operationalization of Philippine Registry for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), recently-held last week at the Crown Royale Hotel, Oct. 10-11.

“Very informative yung seminar kasi talagang naliwanagan kami sa mga uri ng disabilities,” said Lucena Berber, Persons With Disabilities Affairs Officer (PDAO) of the Municipality of Bagac.

 

According to Ms. Rostrata, the purpose of this event is the information dissemination regarding the types of disability, the role of DSWD and other health offices. “Disability can occur at three levels: an impairment of body function or structure; a limitation in activity, such as inability to read and move around; and lastly, a restriction in participation such as exclusion from school or work,” Rosata added.

 

Under RA 7277, the seven types of disability are: psychosocial, disability due to chronic illness. learning disability, mental disability, visual, orthophedic and communication disability

 

Meanwhile, the participants in the event include PWDs, Provincial/Municipal/City Health Officers and Workers, and most of them were coming from the SATAMAKABA or the so-called Samahan ng mga Taong May Kapansanan sa Bataan.
