Roman Expressway expansion plan to complete in 2022

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the 1st Engineering District of the province has targeted the completion of the widening of the portion of the Roman Expressway in Bataan’s first district by year 2022.

District Engineer Erlindo Flores said Monday that to be widened from four lanes to six lanes with road shoulders are the stretch of 18.5 km. of the highway from Hermosa, Orani, Samal, and Abucay, towns in the first district, however, only less than three kilometers are scheduled to be improved this year.
Engineer Flores explained that while there were already portions finished, a budget of P700 to 800 million is still needed to complete the project with the remaining improvement for bridges.

As per extensive DPWH research evaluation, various types of vehicles are passing through the Roman Expressway both public and privately –owned including big transport cargo trucks transporting liquefied petroleum gas, oil tankers and other heavy-duty trucks, carrying raw materials coming foreign countries and for export goods manufactured from the Freeport Area of Bataan in Mariveles.
