CAPITOL COMPOUND, Bataan – At first, it was just “trabaho lang, walang personalan”, however as years go by, it is becoming a mixture of “trabaho” and “personalan”. This is the general sentiment of the men and women behind the implementation of Republic Act 9442, the Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities, here in the Province of Bataan. This feeling somehow inspires them to diligently do their job and feel a sense of fulfillment.
As the staff of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office become involved in serving persons with disabilities (PWDs), the more they get to know them, their individual struggles, failures, triumphs, disappointments, how they hurdled what seem to be insurmountable obstacles and how they manage to maintain a cheerful, hopeful disposition in their day-to-day lives. The PWDs in turn are very appreciative of the government’s programs that cater to their needs, not to mention the sensitivity of the PSWDO staff to their predicament who play a pivotal role in motivating them to gain/strengthen their self confidence so as to become productive and participative members of the mainstream society.
This morning, the Samahan ng mga Taong May Kapansanan sa Bataan (SATAMAKABA) CBR, Inc. is currently holding its officers’ year-end general assembly at the Bulwagan ng Bayan 2. This nonsectarian, nonpolitical and nonprofit people’s organization of persons with disabilities in the Province of Bataan with a total of 4,346 has been registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) since 2012. They have been issued IDs that serve as basis for special discounts and privileges as stipulated under RA 9442.
Aimed at strengthening the bond among officers and other stakeholders as well as inform the members of the current thrusts and programs of the government, the assembly is also a means to enable them to feel a sense of pride as a PWD prime mover and realize their greater responsibility within the organization.
Mrs. Marilyn Tigas, PSWDO chief gave a detailed report of the activities and accomplishments for the year, followed by the special numbers of the different federations. Awards and recognitions were also given out after the parlor games where the PWDs actively and joyfully participated.
