The University of Nueva Caceres Bataan (UNC) owned and operated by the Bataan Peninsula Educational Institution, Inc. headed by former SBMA Chairman Felecito “Tong ” Payumo and former GSIS Pres. Ding Pascual recently forged a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP), a non-stock, non-profit Maritime Self Defense Force and Center for Advanced Maritime Studies, for more proactive and globally competitive graduates that will provide them job readiness in the future.
Retired Philippine Navy Vice Admiral Eduardo Santos, president of MAAP said that the MOA aims to assist the school to start and operate their Maritime Strand Tech Voc. He explained further that students will be trained in welding, ship crew and other skills; while in the Maritime aspect, MAAP will bring their professors and even cadets in UNC to teach and develop the students, have knowledge, skills, attitude and to provide a unique experience in simulators and real ships, for them to be gainfully employed in different shipping companies after the study.
Admiral Santos emphasized that they will ensure that the students get global exposure with approaches from qualified lecturers and at the same time experience MAAP’s state-of-the-art facilities, in compliance to the
requirements of standard training.
Chairman Payumo said that forging an MOA will enhance their culture of excellence through a continual process in advanced maritime studies that will ensure satisfaction, the efficiency of the students thus improving their lives in the future.
