PERSIDA V. RUEDA ACOSTA of Mariveles is the current head of the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) of the Philippines. She was the fourth placer in the 1989 Philippine Bar examinations.

Atty. Acosta was born in Cabcaben, Mariveles in 1961, to parents Florencio and Herminia Rueda. She completed her elementary and secondary education in Cabcaben. She graduated in 1978 as valedictorian of her class at the Cabcaben National High School. She was a Dr. Antonio del Castillo and President Dalupan scholar and Dean’s Lister at the University of the East where she completed her pre-Law studies in 1982, cum laude. She completed her Laws degree at the Ateneo de Manila University and the Univesity of the East in 1987. She was a Senior Fellow of the Nippon Foundation and completed the Asian Public Intellectual Fellowship, and the Salzburg Global Seminar.

Acosta was appointed by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as PAO’s Chief Public Attorney in February 2001, at the young age of 40. Her rank is equivalent to a Department Secretary. She heads a workforce of 1,047 lawyers and 866 support staff assigned in 17 regional and 294 district offices all over the country.

In mid-2010, Acosta starting hosting a regular television program entitled “Public Attorney” shown every Thursday on TV 5. Later on, the television show became a daily program. She was awarded the “Best Public Service Program host” by the Catholic Mass Media Award (CMMA) in November 2011. In addition, she and husband Atty. Benedicto M. Acosta became regular panel members of another TV show called “Face to Face” hosted by Amy Perez.

Atty. Acosta and husband are the loving parents of Kayla Gethsemane and Kamilia Persida.
