1Bataan in safety and health

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Provincial Government of Bataan (PGB), thru the Provincial Engineer’s Office, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) held the first Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Summit s in the province, at Lou-is Restaurant, Resort, this city, yesterday, April 25.
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Undersecretary Ciriaco Lagunzad III commended the Provincial Government of Bataan for its initiative in holding this summit which he said is beneficial not only to the workers but also to the employers, because every one in a building must be safe at all times.

Guest speaker was Senator Joel Villanueva, author of Republic Act 11058 that ensures a safe and healthful workplace for all working people, full protection against all hazards, and protect every worker against injury, sickness or death. Employers who fail to comply with the law will be fined a maximum of P100,00 per day. This is in relation with the recent earthquakes that occurred in different parts of the country where a lot of companies didn’t let their workers go out of the building. “I’m not the only one who passed this law but all of us for we are all part of it,” he added.
To date, Bataan is the only local government unit in the Philippines who has conducted the OSH Summit. There is also an on-going construction of 1Bataan Safety Training Center wherein representatives from different barangays will be trained to become safety officers of their respective barangays.
