Vice Governor Cris Garcia distributed P1 million worth of additional educational assistance to 200 beneficiaries of Iskolar ng Bataan.
The scholars each received P5,000 for the last semester assistance.
“Study hard, grab the opportunity, not all beneficiaries of Iskolar ng Bataan program get additional incentive”, Iskolar ng Bataan coordinator Ramon Cañas quoted the vice governor saying in her message to scholars during the distribution of allowance at the latter’s office recently.
Canas explained that the 200 “poor but deserving students” were chosen from the existing beneficiaries of the Iskolar ng Bataan.
He said they coordinated with DSWD through their program National Household Targeting System in determining the beneficiaries.
He explained the beneficiaries aside from receiving the regular “refund” from the scholarship program, get the additional educational assistance.
Cañas said they started the program for “poor but deserving students” last academic year 2018-2019.
He said the program has an annual budget of P2 million. A scholar receives P5,000 per semester.
He also said they hatched the program as part of their “strategic initiatives” at the Office of Iskolar ng Bataan.
Before becoming vice governor, Garcia was the original coordinator of the Iskolar ng Bataan. She now serves as adviser of the program.
