70th IB CAFGUS lead Scuba diving training in Bataan

BAGAC, Bataan – Ten expert divers of the Civilian Active Auxiliary (CAA) personnel of Delta Company, of the 70th Infantry CAFGU Battalion, led in the conduct of a massive five- day Scuba Training (Class 01-2015) undertaken and facilitated by the Charlie Company of the 24th Infantry Battalion.

Under the direct supervision of Lt. Col. Gilma Galicia, Commanding Officer of 70th IB, the successful scuba diving training was done in coordination with the Municipal Government of Bagac, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), International Life Saving (ILS), Philippine Association of Underwater Activities (PAUC) and the Philippine Sports Commission on Scuba Diving (PSCSD). Started last March 24, it was held at the Florens Resort Training Hall, Brgy Saysain of this town.

​The 29 participants to the five (5) day training are from the LGU of Bagac, one (1) personnel from Bagac Municipal Police Station (MPS), organic personnel of Charlie Company, 24IB headed by 2Lt. Yvonne Ricaforte, as their class marcher. Their competent instructors, namely: Mr. Peter Zheng, Mr. Larry Joie S Alag and Mr. Benedict A. Reyes are from ILS, PAUC and PSCSD. ​ ​

The significant subjects taught focused on maritime laws, implementing rules and regulations (IRR) with the following subtopics relevant on the state of Philippine maritime laws, illegal fishing, restoration of coral reefs procedure and relevant scuba diving techniques underwater.

​In his speech during the opening ceremonies Retired M/General Jose Mabanta, project leader, gave emphasis on the commitment to be carefully followed during the training to be able to learn efficiently within a short period of time from their competent instructors relevant skills and knowledge on maritime prevention and protection to preserve biodiversity. Mabanta likewise stressed among all the participants that they are also mandated to take the lead in the anti-illegal fishing campaign and to ensure the implementation of maritime laws.

Earlier, Gov. Abet S Garcia lauded the CAFGU and Army for their initiatives in planting coral reefs along the coast off Bagac.
