Who’s Who in Bataan – Bishop Bacani

Bishop TEODORO CRUZ BACANI is the current Bishop of Manila San Roque Parish.

Barangay Tuyo, in Balanga, was reported to be the birthplace of Bishop Bacani. Born on January 16, 1940, his mother was Consolacion Cruz, an Orion beauty who was one of the most sought-after candidates for Reyna Elena in many Santacruzans in the province during her time. His father was Engr. Teodoro T. Bacani of San Isidro, Guagua, Pampanga.

Bishop Bacani was raised in Bulacan but completed his elementary education at the Instituto de Mujeres (Roseville College, 1952) and high school education at Letran College in 1956.

During summer vacation, Bishop Bacani used to spendat least a month every year in Orion to be with his grandparents, Pedro Cruz and Severina Hernandez, both natives of Calungusan.

After completing his courses in Philosophy and Theology at the San Jose Seminary in 1961, he took his Master’s degree in Philosophy in finished it in 1962.

He was ordained priest on December 21, 1965 and in the Episcopacy on April 12, 1984. Fr. Teodoro Bacani started as an assistant parish priest in San Antonio, Zambales in 1966 and became an Auxiliary at the Archdiocese of Manila in 1984.

A year later, he became Bishop of Ecclesiastical District of Manila. He gained national prominence not only as a bishop but as the spiritual director of the El Shaddai, together with Evangelist Mike Velarde.

In 1986, he served as chairman of the CBCP Committee on Public Affairs. He is currently the bishop of Caloocan City.
