CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – Top athletes from the motorsports arena gathered for the 13th Annual Golden Wheel Awards Night, the most prestigious recognition and award giving body in motorsports in the country recognizing the exemplary performance of drivers and riders from Karting, GT Racing, 4×4, Motocross, and Superbike Racing. Said awards night was held last February 27 at the Samsung Hall, Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City.
Among those honored was Bataeño Pro Superbike Racer Joey Storm Rivero of Team Kawasaki Philippines-1Bataan. A native of Limay, Rivero who has been active in motorcycle events and popular among local riding clubs, learned and started riding in the very roads of Bataan.
Joey or “Storm” as he is popularly called in the racing and motoring media circles, in his first year on a 1000cc motorcycle, joined the fastest premier motorcycle race in the country, The Philippine SuperBike Championship Series, a 6 race series held at the Batangas Racing Circuit and the Clark International Speedway every year.
Known as the Nationals, this race was dominated by the fastest pro riders on the fastest bikes and top teams in the country. Rivero, on his rookie season finished strong, scoring podiums and good finishes throughout the 6 races of 2015 and got him to finish as the Overall 2nd Runner up in the Novice Class of the Philippine Superbike Championships that was awarded to him during the Golden Wheel Awards Night in recognition for his hard work, dedication and perseverance which led to his exemplary performance.
“Impossible is when one stops believing.. Just keep on dreaming and believing..” Rivero’s words referring to his newest accomplishment, being able to attend and be honored in this prestigious event for the 2nd time in the 2 years of racing despite coming from humble beginnings.
Rivero dedicates this latest achievement to fellow Bataeños and hopes his feats serve as inspiration to those who are losing hope and struggling.
