“Sa araw-araw na umuuwi ang mga bata, magulang at guro mula sa paaralan na walang nadidisgrasya, yan ang measurement ng success ng aming proyekto”…Engr. Phillip de Jesus
LIMAY, Bataan – In keeping with its Corporate Social Responsibility program, Orica Philippines, based in this industrialized town formally turned over its projects namely: a drinking station, canopy, hand rails and ICT rooms with grills to the officials of Alangan Elementary School last Wednesday, September 7.
Every year, Orica Phils visits schools in Limay to find out how they could be of help. Once a need has been identified, and funding has been approved, a project commences.
According to Engr. John Phillip de Jesus, Quality Safety Health Environment Community and Security Leader of Orica, this year, they prioritized this school because they saw the need to ensure the safety not only of the students but also of the teachers and parents.
Ensuring safety and security is one of Engr. Philip’s pet projects. He said “Hindi equipment, hindi classroom, hindi computers ang naibigay, kung hindi safety ng mga mag-aaral, guro at magulang”.
They saw the danger especially during the rainy season, when students run and the ground is slippery, not to mention the fact that the school is situated in the upland area. Hence they saw the need for a stairway with hand railings.
They also noticed that the existing drinking station is elevated, which poses danger when students go up to drink, hence they also put up railings and even added another drinking station, this time placed in a flat surface and fit for the height of the students.
“Sa araw-araw na umuuwi ang mga bata, magulang at guro mula sa paaralan na walang nadidisgrasya, yan ang measurement ng success ng aming proyekto”, added Engr. Phillip.
