Farmer in BPSU project to speak at PhilRAA convention

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – A farmer cooperator of a Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) research project will speak in the 6th Philippine-Rural Development Administration Alumni Association (PhilRAA) to be held on September 29-30, 2016 in Los Banos, Laguna.

Dr. Hermogenes Paguia, BPSU OIC Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training Services, said Anthony Villanueva, a farmer cooperator of BPSU research project   S & T Community-Based Farm (STCBF) on mango production was invited to the convention to discuss the technology transfer elements and other factors that led to the success of the project.

Paguia, also the project leader, was likewise invited to the convention.

The project focuses on the improvement of the cultural practices of mango farms with trees that had not yet produced good yields because of high-planting density and poor maintenance. Through the technology transfer activities of DOST-PCAARRD and BPSU, 15 STCBF sites were established in Bataan-seven in Balanga City and eight in Abucay.

A week ago, Villanueva was also speaker at the Techno Gabay Summit Region 3 organized by the Department of Agriculture. Paguia said Balanga City agriculture office invited the farmer cooperator to discuss STCBF. The BPSU OIC vice president said Villanueva is recipient of various projects from DA and DAR.

The PhilRAA convention aims to sustain the linkages among the members and highlight the outcomes of technology transfer initiatives to community transformation.
