PILAR, Bataan – Mayor Alice D. Pizarro is opting for the prototype of a farm tourism sector to embark on a concrete program of improving the quality of agricultural crops and expansion of economic activity relevant to travel and tourism industry.
The proposed farm tourism concept is more appropriate in the locality which would diversify income for the growing micro-small and medium enterprises by focusing on extra productive and wide-ranging farming systems in the periphery of historic Mount Samat in the upland village of Liyang, this town.
Mayor Pizarro mentioned in an informal talk at her office the other day that a dragon fruit farm owned by Jing Jing Ona located at the foot of Mount Samat is rapidly gaining popularity from Manila fruit vendors, health enthusiasts, cancer patients and other local and foreign visitors.
The lady municipal executive is looking forward to effective measures geared at motivating farmers as well as the residents to start shifting to farm tourism by cultivating high-value crops with big consumption demands from visitors and tourists.
This third-class municipality, classified as the agricultural town of Southern Bataan, is the centerpiece of yearly celebration of the Araw ng Kagitingan which has continuously attracted thousands of tourists and visitors at the historic Mt. Samat National Shrine.
Pizarro added that the prevailing favorable peace and order situation, infrastructure diversification strategy and local government advocacy of instituting business friendly atmosphere and other programs would favorably come out with ideal farm tourism project best suited to this town.
