BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Serious in its environment protection effort, the city government through the leadership tandem of Mayor Francis Garcia and Vice Mayor Vianca Venzon-Gozon has started the implementation of Plastic Holiday.
The Plastic Holiday in this city bans the use of plastic bags in markets, restaurants, and other establishments every Thursday and Friday.
Balanga officials noted large volume of plastic wastes clogged drainages, creeks, and rivers during typhoons that caused flooding. The city government recommends to folks to bring ecobags, baskets, or bayong when going to market.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod led by Venzon-Gozon passed a resolution for the implementation of Plastic Holiday. The members of Balanga SP are Councilors Benjie Merino, Jim Espinosa (SK federated president), Jovic Baluyot, Joy Panganiban, Noel Valdecanas (PCL Bataan president), Jett Nisay, Anselmo Sanchez, Karl Paguio, Hubert Pizarro, Ric Magpantay, and Tony Tranate.
Venzon-Gozon is putting premium on environmental protection.
“Let us not forget to take care of our environment”, is her constant reminder to local residents.
She is also urging local folks to use old-fashioned reusable diaper for their children instead of commercial diaper. Environmentalists lament commercial diapers take 250-500 years to decompose.
Experts said plastic trash has the greatest potential to harm the environment, wildlife, and humans.
