Peace covenant signing set on Saturday

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Commission on Elections Bataan office announced on Thursday the holding of peace covenant signing among the local candidates for the mid-term elections.
The Comelec source said the important peace covenant signing event will be held at the St. Joseph Cathedral before the assembly of candidates 7:30 in the morning at the Plaza Mayor de Balanga.
All candidates led by Bataan Gov. Albert Garcia have been invited to attend this important event before the start of local election campaign period in March 29, this year. Campaign period for the national candidates started last Monday.
Meanwhile, Atty. Rene Cruz, Jr., the newly-assigned Comelec officer for Bataan province, had already mobilized his men to remove illegal election campaign materials such as those over-sized and attached to the trees.
As to the issue of disqualified local candidates, the Bataan Comelec has yet to refer the case to Comelec central office in Intramuros, Manila. The local office was not authorized to issue or release such report until after the case is finally resolved and sent back to Bataan, the source said..
Earlier unconfirmed reports say that some candidates for local positions were disqualified to join the May election for certain legal issues.
