Francisco de los Reyes, barangay chairman of Poblacion, Mariveles town asked the contractor of the P 10 million worth Mariveles Fish Port project funded by the Department of Agriculture (DA) to fast-track the two-storey government building which would benefit the fisherfolks and residents.
When completed, the port could accommodate eight fish brokers and storage facilities which would serve as accessible unloading areas for marine products of about 1,000 fishermen of this town, Chairman Reyes said.
Aside from the faster fish trading deal, the Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council composed of fishermen is using the periphery of the town fish port as berthing areas and the future route to the San Miguel Global Corporation Special Economic Zone in the coastal village of Biaan, Chairman Reyes stated during the press conference the other day.
He added that the strategic location of Mariveles Fish Port is a viable site to attract investments for the establishment of more productive medium enterprises and other commercial services with the growing population of the country’s export processing zone.
