Municipal Mayor Ramil del Rosario announced before a gathering of 20,000 youths, women environmentalists, Barangay officials and media people that he just stopped smoking.
Del Rosario was speaking shortly before the start of massive clean up effort during the launching on September 21 of “One Bagac For Zero Plastic,” that coincides with the International Coastal Cleanup Day.
He said in Filipino: “Huminto na ako sa paninigarilyo mula ngayon. Sana kayo rin.” “Panahon na para kumilos tayo alang-alang sa ating kapaligiran,” he added.
The mayor also pointed out he doesn’t mind if his costly campaign against coastal obstructions would mean a defeat in election. “It may cost my political career, but I don’t care as long as we have a beautiful, clean environment,” Del Rosario told the group of media people who covered the important event.
He said he did not spare even his close relative in his campaign against those who ruin the environment. “Because I want this town to become the cleanest in the country. Hindi naman masamang mangarap,” said the mayor.
