BATAAN First District Rep. Geraldine Batista Roman wants farmers and fishermen empowered to improve their lot and get off from the shackle of poverty.
Roman emphasized this loud and clear during the second Farmers and Fishermen Summit on Monday at the Orani Multi-purpose Gym in Orani, Bataan where about a thousand farmers and fishermen from different towns of the province converged.
She said: “Oras na para itaguyod natin ang karapatan ng mga magsasaka at mangingisda.”
Roman who spent years in Spain for her higher education said Filipino farmers are nothing compared to farmers in other countries in Europe. In Spain for instance, farmers live in style with flashy cars; their fishing boats and water craft are well-equipped with modern devices, she said.
The first transgender lawmaker to be elected in the country it is about time “our local farmers and fishermen act together with the support services of concerned government agencies to improve your products through the “Taas Noo Filipino First Farmers.”
She likewise wants to revive the famous seafoods industry in Orani and adjacent towns.
