
ORANI, Bataan- Bataeños mourn the sudden demise of their great leader former Assemblyman, Deputy Finance Minister, Presidential Legislative and Liaison Officer (PLLO) and Bataan congressman Antonino “Tony” Roman who succumbed to heart attack Wednesday. He was 74.
The sudden death of Roman, husband of incumbent congresswoman Minia Roman ( Bataan, 1st district) shocked the public as he was still a strong and athlete man. “Nakakalungkot dahil malakas pa siya actually. Kamakailan lang ay naglakad pa kami ng mahigit limang kilometro noong pumunta kami sa Malaysian Embassy noong nasa Malaysia kami,” said District Engr. Wilfredo S. Mallari.
Known as an intelligent and incorruptible leader, Tony Roman was elected as Assemblyman and was later appointed by former President Marcos as Deputy Finance Minister to Sec. Cesar Virata, became congressman from 1998 to 2007; and PLLO (Cabinet rank) during the time of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo from September, 2010 to February, 2012.
He is survived by his wife Congresswoman Minia, children Marc, Geraldine, Tony Boy and Gina.
His remains lie in state at Mt. Carmel Church in New Manila, Quezon City up to Friday evening, then after 8:00 am mass on Saturday morning, his remains will be brought to his residence in his hometown in Orani, Bataan where he will be buried at Orani Memorial Cemetery on January 17, to coincide with their 49th wedding anniversary, said Rep. Minia Roman.
“Tony Roman was very intelligent, helpful to the needy, incorruptible and a good husband and father,” the teary-eyed Rep. Minia Roman told this correspondent.
