To signify their commitment in the implementation of the ordinance, each Task Force member signed on the commitment wall for a SMOKE FREE BATAAN with the agreement that the Bataan Provincial Government and its attached agencies will vie for the Department of Health Red Orchid Awards in its annual search for 100% smoke free environment for government offices, hospitals and local government units.
Last July 18, heads of local and national agencies situated within capitol compound also met at the MCH conference of the PHO for the same purpose.
Meanwhile, it was the turn of all Municipal Health Officers and Tobacco Control Program Coordinators of the different municipalities last August 5 to signify their commitment to the full implementation of the provincial smoke free ordinance and in vying for the DOH’s Red Orchid Award.
Mr. Rommel Arriola, a representative of Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Alliance, Philippines (FCAP) was the guest speaker. Local Government Units (LGUs) who will win the Red Orchid Award for the first time will receive a trophy, a certificate of recognition and Php 100,000 worth of medicines that they can use for smoking cessation or control of non-communicable diseases.
The Bataan Provincial Health Office, is now scheduling a series of WHO MPOWER trainings that will help and guide the different agencies, LGUs and hospitals in implementing the anti smoking and tobacco control ordinance of the Province.
