Bataan tykes – assured of a child – friendly local governance

 

The Council for the Welfare of Children has adopted the audit and would be using the result as inputs in the conferment of the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance. The LGUs shall be assessed based on the following criteria: 1. Percentage reduction in deaths among children below 5 years old; percentage reduction in the number of children under 6 with below normal weights; 3. Percentage increase in the number of 3 to 4 yr old children attending center-based day care services; 4. Completion rate for elementary schooling; 5. Absence of child labor cases; 6. Percentage reduction in the number of children victims of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation; 7. safety measures for children in the community and schools; 8. Extent of mainstreaming of children’s rights to survival, development, protection and participation; 9. An ordinance establishing Barangay Violence against Women and their Children Desks; 10. 2013 Philhealth accreditationin its main health facility or rural health unit for maternal care services; 11. A local school board (LSB) plan for CY 2013 aligned with School Improvement Plan (SIP); and 12. Completed at least 70% of its LSB plan for 2013.

In one of the Technical Assistance Resource Augmentation’s (TARA)  regular meetings held last August 29 at the La Vista Resort of this City attended by Gov. Abet Garcia, Mayor Joet Garcia, Ms. Geraldine Roman, DSWD Regional Director 3 Adelina Apostol and municipal and city  social welfare officers, the initial result of the audit was presented and discussed. The municipality of Samal topped with a total score of 39 equivalent to 90%; Mariveles came close with a score of 38 or 89%; Abucay – 88%; Balanga City – 87% and Bagac – 81%.
