The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) presided by Vice Gov. Cris Garcia passed a measure establishing the Provincial West Philippine Sea Council of Bataan during its 38th regular session on April 13.
The SP also approved an important ordinance supporting the efforts of the national government to protect and assert the country’s sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
The ordinance further adopts a Provincial WPS Action Plan aimed to strengthen coordination among stakeholders and promoting initiatives in education, research, and advocacy.
The newly created council is expected to serve as a coordinating body that will align provincial programs with national policies concerning the WPS.
The SP said the ordinance shows Bataan’s commitment to support national efforts in upholding sovereignty and advancing informed public engagement on issues concerning the West Philippine Sea.
