Swedish green marine technology eyes Bataan waters

The possibility of bringing cutting-edge electric marine transport to Bataan was discussed during a meeting between local officials and representatives of Swedish technology company Candela, a global leader in hydrofoiling electric boats and ferries.

During the meeting, participants explored innovative maritime transportation solutions and how these technologies could potentially be introduced in the province to improve mobility across coastal and island communities.

Among the topics discussed were Candela’s electric vessels and hydrofoil technology, which are designed to make sea travel faster, quieter, and more environmentally friendly compared to conventional boats and ferries.

Present during the discussions were BBJVI President Jopet Inton, Candela Asia-Pacific Regional CEO Björn Antonsson, and Earth and Shore Leisure Communities Corp. President and CEO Goody Ilagan Jr., alongside Bataan officials led by Bataan Second District Congressman Abet Garcia.

Candela, based in Sweden, has gained international attention for its electric hydrofoiling vessels that “fly” above the water using underwater wings, reducing energy consumption and emissions. The company’s ferries are already being deployed in several cities worldwide as governments seek cleaner and more sustainable transportation alternatives.
