MARIVELES, Bataan- To rekindle the heroism of World War II heroes, Bataan local and tourism officials have set what they call “Bataan Freedom Run” come April 12 that will kick off in this industrial town at the Kilometer Zero where the famous “Death March” started.
Organized by the Philippine Veterans Bank in cooperation with the provincial and local tourism officials here, said fun run is expected to be headed by Gov. Abet S. Garcia, who will lead a group of runners from the Capitol compound, and Mariveles town Mayor Jesse Concepcion of this town. Among the expected participants are the PNP led by Sr. Supt. Rhodel Sermonia, the 24th Infantry Battalion, provincial capitol employees and students among others.
With several categories: 1km, for what they call “for family”, 5, 10 and the longest at 68.9 kilometers, said fun run is open to the public. Registration is up to April 5. Proceeds of the fun run will be used for the restoration and maintenance of World War II markers all over the province.
