CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – In time with this year’s 37th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week celebration on July 17-23, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Region 3, spearheaded a sports competition participated in by the different Federations of Persons with Disabilities all over the Region held at the Mimosa Convention Center, Clark Development Corp. Angeles City, Pampanga last July 23, 2015.
This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme, “Health and Wellness of Persons with Disabilities, Opportunities Towards an Inclusive Development for All.”
According to Ms. Christina May Ferma, DSWD-Bataan Focal Person on Disability Affairs, the 45-person Bataan delegation composed of PWD players, local federation presidents, parents and focal persons did not come home empty handed. The formidable PWDs from Bataan won in the following events: First place – shutput and long jump of the hearing impaired; 2nd place – zumba (open for all PWDs), swimming of the orthopedically impaired, and wheelaton; and consolation prizes in basketball, dama, chess, and running of the blind
Through programs and activities like this, persons with disabilities are given the chance to participate effectively in the society and are afforded inclusive, quality and equal access to opportunities to become functional and productive members of the communities in which we all live.
