Let’s contribute against climate change

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Balanga City Vice Mayor Noel Valdecanas has urged city folks to contribute against climate change during the opening of Barangay Week program in Barangay Cupang North on Monday.

“We now have El Nino in the province. I urge all of you to contribute against climate change. I see here students of the Iskolar ng Bataan, the young generation can help against climate change”, the vice mayor said.

“Time has already changed. Before we can use the river water here in Cupang North for cooking rice but now it could not be done”, reminisced the vice mayor who hailed from the village. “If we do not act now and maybe we are not here anymore but only our children, by 2050 the situation could be far worse and truly irreversible”, warned the city official.

Two weeks ago, during the Barangay Week program in Barangay Cupang West, the city vice mayor also urged city folks particularly farmers to be prepared for the El Nino in the province.

El Nino phenomenon is a weather condition characterized by prolonged dry and drought season. According to Pagasa, Bataan is one of the 13 provinces affected by the weather phenomenon from this month of September up to the first few months of 2016.

Valdecanas advised folks to conserve water and for farmers to plant drought-resistant varieties of palay. He relayed that the national government already allocated funds in preparation for the weather phenomenon.
