Bataan gears up for BPO manpower needs

CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – With the entry of the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry in Bataan,  educational institutions in the province now face a task: to provide the needed manpower who possess excellent English language skills, authentic customer service, adaptability, affinity to Western culture, creativity and high commitment to excellence.

In view of the above, all higher educational institutions (HEI’s) and Technical-Vocational Schools (TVS) in Bataan, this morning grouped together, organized and vowed to work hand in hand to produce the needed workforce who could match the skills requirements of the BPO industry and other would be locators in the province.

Said first organizational and business conference of all HEIs and TVS was held this morning at the Conference Room of the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), City.

After the warm welcome of BPSU President, Dr. Greg Rodis, the Provincial Information/Management Information Office (PIO/MISO) headed by Mr. Geoffrey Loyola laid down the investment opportunities in the province as well as the reasons why locators prefer Bataan compared to other provinces in the country, making Bataan an ICT hub and business center, in an audio-visual presentation (AVP).

Dr. Caridad Abuan, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Director III discussed the policies and incentives of CHED on the information and communication technology program. Provincial TESDA Director, Ms. Grace Castillo presented TESDA’s initiatives to market the IT-BPM-GIC as a career choice while Mr. John Frederick Dy, GENPACT Vice President enlightened the participants on talent development, training and policies for IT-BPM-GIC.

During the business meeting, the group, who will now be officially called the Bataan Association of HEIs and TVS (BAHEITVS) elected their officers who immediately took their oath before Dr. Caridad Abuan of CHED. The following are the first set of officers:

Auditor – Mr. Flor Ayangco, Asia Pacific College of Arts and Sciences
PRO – Dr. Jose Rapsing, Colegio de San Juan de Letran

Gov. Albert S. Garcia who took time out from his busy work schedule graced the occasion to express his appreciation to this sector’s gesture of all out support to this program. Mr. Francis Garcia was also present. Dr. Delfin Magpantay, former BPSU President and now Education Consultant for the Provincial Government of Bataan efficiently handled the conference.
