A Bataeña conquers Olongapo

CITY of BALANGA, Bataan –Nineteen year old Edwina Balila Genotiva, of Brgy. San Jose, this City was hailed as grand winner in the recently concluded The Voice- Olongapo Season 5 held at the Activity Center, Harbor Point-Ayalla Malls, Subic Bay Freeport Zone last August 21, 2016.

A beneficiary of the Iskolar ng Bayan Program of the City Government of Balanga, Edwina is a 3rd year student of the Bataan Peninsula State University-Balanga Campus, taking up Bachelor of Science in Education major in English.

Whayne, as she is fondly called,  completed the requirements of the Voice-Olongapo Season 5 from February to August 2016 , which involved the following events: Pre-Qualifying Audition’ Blind Audition, 1st Gala, 2nd Gala, Battle Round, 2-Day Incubation Program and the Grand Showdown

Together with the 12 finalists, she conquered the stage with the song “Saan Darating Ang Umaga” popularized by Angeline Quinto for the first round and “Basta’t Maghintay Ka Lamang” sung by the all contestants for the second round. She also received special awards like Fabulous Star, Most Promising Star, and Outstanding Performer for the first round.

When asked why she joined the competition considering the distance from Balanga City to Olongapo City, she gave the following reasons: she wants to learn more; she loves to perform in front of many people, for just seeing the audience enjoying her performance is to her already a big achievement; lastly, she wants to win.

With all the hardships she went through and with God’s grace and guidance, Whayne made it as the Grand Winner.
