Orion Mayor Antonio Raymundo proudly announced to local reporters here that one of his constituent named Maria Cecilia Cruz, a 2007 graduate of Jose Rizal Institute in Orion, Bataan, brought honors to the school when she bagged the top honors in a design contest in Milan, Italy.
She bested the top international designers in the Golden A’ Design Award in Futuristic Design Category for her Pearl Atlantis project.
Cruz, who has since moved her residence to Manila, earned an Architecture degree from University of Santo Tomas.
Because of her outstanding feat, Cruz is also one of this year’s recipients of the Ani ng Dangal Awards. She will be honored by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila on February 2, together with 56 other awardees, in a fitting tribute to artists who have earned international recognition during the past year.
The annual search is part of the 2014 Philippine Arts Festival in Celebration of the National Arts Month celebrated every February.
As part of the celebrations, her works will be featured in the NCCA Building Intramuros on February 10, 2014 3:00pm.
Cruz’s schoolmates said that her achievement once again proved that Rizalians are at par with the best in the world. Another Rizalian and Orion resident who recently made a big name was Miss Universe 2012 first runner up and now a popular celebrity and commercial model, Janine Tugonon.
