Balanga co-ops mark month with activities

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Balanga City Cooperative month is being celebrated with gusto by no less than the Balanga City Cooperative and Development Council which oversees the 23 primary coops here. Coop banks belong to secondary cooperatives.
Litz del Rosario, officer-in-charge of Balanga City Cooperative Development Council, said cooperatives had been generating jobs for coop members and the local community. “The coop members themselves run their business and if ran efficiently it redounds to the success of the members themselves,” said Del Rosario.
“But local government units also play a pivotal role in the smooth operation of cooperatives,” she added.
The activities which run from October 22-26 include candle, dishwashing and fabric softener making, zumba, school supplies distribution, feeding and entertaining the elders, flower arrangement, dental and medical mission, and tree planting (1M41B Trees Challenge.
Members of different cooperatives in the city are enjoined to participate in the weeklong celebration with this month’s theme: “Cooperatives: Partners For Building Resilient and Empowered Communities Towards A Better And Stronger Philippines.”
The activities will be held at Plaza Mayor de Balanga and different villages. Cooperatives were divided into five clusters to do their community service in different barangays “as a way of giving back to the community their being tax-free enterprises.”
The kick-off ceremony will be held Monday during the flag-raising ceremony with inspirational message from City Mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia to be followed by elaborate oaths, and pronouncements of vision, mission.
