In celebration of Bataan Farmers and Fisherfolk Week, the Provincial Government of Bataan, led by Gov. Joet Garcia, honored the vital role of primary food producers of the province, marking the start of the week-long celebration at the Bataan Tourism Pavilion, May 21.
The event, themed “Magsasaka’t Mangingisdang Bataeño: Kabuhayan ay Aangat, Pag-asenso ay Tiyak,” aimed to empower producers through various programs in support of the local farmers and fisherfolk.
Garcia highlighted the goal to develop a comprehensive system for these programs including the Sagip Saka Program, which aimed to sell local products directly to government institutions, under Republic Act 11321.
“Umiisip tayo ng paraan kung paano tayo magkakaroon nang mas mabilis na paraan para maikonekta ‘yung mga producers at ang ating mga buyers na hindi na dumadaan sa mga traders. Ang objective po namin ay mas malaki ang kita ninyo,” Garcia said.
Moreover, Garcia also emphasized the Agri Tayo Bataeño, a program of the Office of Provincial Agriculturist, that promotes different local sources in Bataan online, aiming to provide a wider reach for Bataeño farmers and fisherfolk.
The event also featured different orientations and open dialogues for local producers led by various organizations that support local producers.
