Bataan explores income generating farm tourism project

The Bataan Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) is strongly advocating for the possibility of encouraging farm tourism as alternative income generating and food sufficiency for stakeholders and farming communities.

Ms. Alice D. Pizarro, provincial tourism officer, stressed the value of farm tourism with the quality of agricultural resources and fishery dimensions of the historic province which boost local tourism and travel business.

The implementation of the farm tourism strategic action plan of the Department of Tourism (DOT) is expected to provide well-defined guidelines for locators as to the development criteria of the geographical atmosphere and the verdant forest of Bataan Natural Park which are competitive advantages that they may eventually capitalize in pursuing eco-tourism projects.

Pizarro explained that under the Farm Tourism Development Act of 2016 which provides the policy and enabling environment for the encouragement, environment and promotion of farm tourism in the country.

Ms. Pizarro also said the authors of the law recognized the importance of agriculture in making available food and other products necessary to sustain and augment tourism life and in providing livelihood for a major section of the population.
