Bataan folks must actively participate in the environmental protection

BALANGA CITY, Bataan-“Bataan folks must actively participate in the environmental conservation and protection efforts in the province”, said PG ENRO Head Engr. Vic Ubaldo during the opening of the two-day Bataan Environment Summit 2018.

“In sync with the thrust of Gov. Abet Garcia, we want all Bataan folks particularly the youths to truly understand and participate in conserving and protecting the environment”, he also said.

About five hundred senior public high school students and other guests joined the summit held at Bataan People’s Center, capitol compound. The governor spearheaded the summit.

“Our high school students attended last year the Coastal Environment Summit in Subic Bay Freeport Zone, but this year we decided to conduct our own summit, which was approved by our governor”, he narrated.

“We invited companies in the province, they set up booths to showcase their CSR projects on environmental protection for students to learn”, he added.

In his message, Gov. Garcia disclosed the provincial government’s upcoming “1 Million Trees Project”, which will utilize social media. He also said Bataan will again conduct the massive planting in one day in upland Orion to recapture the Guinness World of Records it previously held.

Mila Ramirez, DENR Bataan Division Chief representing PENRO Raul Mamac who was attending an official function in DENR regional office reported the ‘State of Provincial Environment’.

Activities in the summit included lectures on solid waste, air pollution, water pollution, and coastal management, and quiz bee, poster making, and mural painting.

Aside from the governor, the environment summit was also attended by Ms. Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco, Ms. Earth Eco-Tourism 2017 Vanessa Mae Castillo, and Kate Gallardo from PEMSEA.
