CAMP TOLENTINO, Bataan- The Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Bataan has a new provincial chief (PO) in the person of Chief Inspector Rommel Labanan, a graduate of PNPA class 2000.
Major Labanan replaced Chief Supt. Ruben Tampis, who has filed for “inactive status” pending his imminent retirement from the service.
Set to pay a courtesy call to Gov. Abet Garcia, Labanan said that he will work for the maintenance of peace and order in Bataan and vowed to rid the province of wanted criminals and lawless elements. “Basta ako ay magta trabaho lang para sa ikatatahimik ng Bataan; ayaw kong maintriga ang aming ahensiya. Sa legal lang na trabaho ako,” said Labanan.
Major Labanan’s statement came in the wake of a series of serious cases where some POs were reportedly involved in “hold up me,” extortion, hiding confiscated illegal drugs in exchange for large amount of money, among others from their victims.
Sr. Supt. Audie Atienza, Bataan PNP Director, sought for the immediate relief of Chief Inspector Melchor Cantil, former PO of Bataan, after he and his men were accused of extortion, among others.
