BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Representative Jose Enrique S. Garcia, lll of the province’s 2nd Congressional District, extolled the heroic deeds and patriotism of World War ll veterans in defending the last bastion of democracy during the presentation of the United States Congressional Gold medal to ten (10) Bataan veterans the other day at the Emiliana Hall in Barangay Tenejero, this City.
Speaking before veterans and their relatives, guests and local officials, Cong. Garcia acknowledged the much deserved and long awaited recognition of bravery and valor to our Filipino World War ll veterans.
The US Congressional Gold Medal is an award bestowed by the American Congress and the highest civilian tribute in the United States.
In his welcome address, Rep. Garcia stressed that this medal recognizes what our veteran heroes have unflinchingly given during the war. But more importantly, this medal symbolizes and acclaims their indelible contribution in keeping the flame of freedom burning brightly.
Likewise, Rep. Garcia underscored the shared history and friendship of the Philippine and the United States of America, forged in blood and sacrifice and henceforth purified with love for our respective countries and one another.
He highlighted, “We are honored and privileged to host this event and be part of history once again as today marks the first time this honor will be presented in Bataan”.
He added at this time of the year, when we remember those who defended Bataan, we pause and reflect and honor their lives and legacies and we recognize their sacrifices with deep respect and profound appreciation.
