Highlighted during the 1st Provincial Expanded Local Health Board Meeting for the year 2020 presided by Gov. Abet Garcia, held yesterday, December 16 at Crown Royale Hotel are measures on strengthening health care in the province.
In attendance were health practitioners and stakeholders who actively took part in discussing updates on the health programs in the province such as the launching of a new method against mosquito diseases called ‘Wolbachia’; updates on the Corona Virus cases, status of Hepa B Pilot Project in Bataan and implementation of Universal Health Care (UHC) law.
Gov. Garcia emphasized that the upgrading of the health information system should be a priority, especially in barangay health centers to prevent or immediately control the spread of epidemics in the province.
Also in attendance were science research specialists from the World Health Organization (WHO), who discussed the 3-year pilot implementation of Wolbachia project in selected municipalities in Bataan.
Wolbachia is a low-cost egg release method that can reduce the ability of mosquitoes to transmit disease by replacing wild dengue-transmitting mosquito populations with populations that are unable to transmit dengue, Zika or chikungunya viruses to people. This will be done using bacteria called Wolbachia, which are naturally found inside many insects including mosquitoes and are passed from female insects to their offspring.
