BALANGA CITYm, Bataan – The Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) has sought financial assistance worth P10 million from the Department of Agriculture for its mango research and production program.
Former provincial board member Gaudencio Ferrer said Bataan Gov. Albert S. Garcia had endorsed the request of BPSU President Gregorio Rodis to DA Secretary Manny Pinol.
Ferrer said he personally delivered the letter to the office of Secretary Pinol. “We talked for almost an hour in the office of the DA top honcho,” said Ferrer who is also an agriculturist before he joined politics.
He divulged that there is a bright prospect that the BPSU request would be given priority by Pinol.
According to the former Hermosa mayor, there is now a compelling need to launch a mango research and production effort to arrest the declining mango production in Bataan. He did not cite facts and figures about the status of mango production in the province.
“But we have to upgrade mango production in Bataan, there is a need for research to be done by the BPSU in coordination with related agencies,” Ferrer said.
