A group of engineering students from Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) won as the Grand Champion in the recently concluded 2019 Global Korea Scholarship for ASEAN Countries Science and Engineering Program hosted by the National Institute for International Education in Korea last August 13 at Mokpo National Maritime University.

A total of 200 undergraduate students who are majoring in the fields of science and engineering in universities and colleges of the 10 ASEAN countries joined the said program. The aim of the program is to provide students with in-depth academic training in their chosen field and to nurture future leaders who will contribute to the development of global society. The students stayed in Korea from July 11 to August 14 to study different academic trainings related to their field as well as to learn the culture in Korea.

Among the 200 students, Ian Jessie Brondial (Electrical Engineering), Jessa San Pedro (Mechanical Engineering), Keren Joy Punzalan (Electronics Engineering), and Jessa Mae Panes (Civil Engineering) from BPSU made it to the main event where they got to present their research study entitled, “Cloud-Ready Database and Event Logger for Engine’s Maintenance Routine,” It’s a computer application that can be used instead of a manually written logbook. Being electronically controlled it will serve as a back-up file for marine maintenance. Aside from BPSU, six (6) other universities from the Philippines joined the said program but only the study conducted by the BPSU students stood out.
